MBAs: The Reunion

By Dave Doran

MBAs: The Reunion
Due Out: 2018

Author’s Rationale

I have attended countless reunions over the decades: high school, college, professional meetings on the pretence of meeting old colleagues, as well as corporate get-togethers built in to some calendar of their own, and B School reunions.  Mostly, I have avoided these ‘happy’ occasions, regarding most of them as cringe worthy as the more successful members of the class were given an audience to flaunt whatever it was they wished to display.

I have however made it a point to attend my five yearly B school get-togethers.  The wide intervals and the fact that alumni come from all corners of the world give them a certain validity.  They do provide a time-out and a chance to catch up on old friendships that were forged in such an intensive hot-house cauldron all those years ago.  Even there, or maybe I should say particularly there, in those early years, many could not resist the bit of show and tell, whether it was turning up in the stretch limo, or a series of extravagant and exaggerated ‘war’ stories.

Having experienced it at first hand, I thought  that the environment was fertile ground to be explored as a setting.  I have not yet dug deep into this project, but my ideas for it are listed in the summary below.

The Story

The Reunion is likely to focus on the MBA Class of 2005 as they get together for their tenth reunion in 2015.  The rivalries and jealousies that have festered and endured since their time at business school result in extraordinarily high stakes and death as ruthless financiers and business rivals jostle for commercial and financial advantage.  Their partners, both financial and marital, get caught up in the machinations. The maelstrom of jealousies and rivalries ensures that the brawling is not confined to the principal actors as the hangers on to the power brokers  fight to ensure that  their wealth, families or place in the social and  pecking order is not threatened.

Hello World!

Welcome to Dave Doran Books!  My writing history dates back only a few years, but I have stories to tell and something to say, so I hope you will join me on what promises to be an exciting journey.

Under the books tab, I have laid out my plans and given some flavor of where I intend to go with each new novel.  Unlike the biblical tablets, these ideas are not etched in stone.  I am open to suggestion and changing my direction.  So, please join in and make your voice heard.  Let me have your ideas on what I have already published, or the titles and subject matter I have identified for future books.  As I start out I will try to give a more comprehensive roadmap by providing excerpts from my draft manuscripts.

Dig in and let me have your reaction.  Better still, if it is a reaction to something I have published why not post your opinion on any of the sites that encourage reviews and feedback to writers and readers.

About This Website

This website was set up primarily to convey information about Dave Doran, a newly established novelist, who is creating an impact with his novel, The Brexit Conspiracies.

The plans outlined for his future books provide a useful early take on what he will have coming down the line for us. His voice is interesting and markedly different to others, as is his treatment of the power structures that exist out there and the worlds of business and politics.

The site has been constructed to allow feedback, commentary on related subjects and new points of view on business, the corporate, financial and political worlds.
